CIRM’s 2018 Annual Report sums up the agency accomplishments over the last year in just 24 pages,

The report look at the highlights, progress, and the impact CIRM has had on stem cell research over the last year. But it’s also a look forward at the challenges ahead and the people who will help us meet them and keep moving the field forward.

People are truly at the center of this report. On the front cover is UC San Francisco’s Dr. Tippi MacKenzie. Recognized for developing an in‑utero treatment for the nearly always fatal disorder alpha thalassemia major, Dr. MacKenzie is featured alongside a photo of the baby and mother whose lives were transformed by that therapy. On the back cover is Rich Lajara, the first person ever treated in a CIRM‑funded clinical trial.

Inside, simple, clear visuals show how we performed this year. The numbers tell a powerful story:

• 50 clinical trials funded to date, including 7 this year
• $2.6 billion in CIRM grants leveraged into an additional $3.2 billion in matching funds and outside investments
• 1,180 patients enrolled in CIRM clinical trials

We know people don’t have much time to read Annual Reports. That’s why we’ve made this one as visual and accessible as possible. We want you to understand who we are, and what we’ve accomplished. The report also highlights those who helped make it happen.

We believe we have a great story to share. This Annual Report is one chapter of that story. We hope you enjoy it.
