It’s always gratifying when a researcher we’ve supported receives an honor. We were delighted to learn that Dr. Hanna Mikkola of UCLA won the 2013 McCulloch and Till Award.
The Society for Hematology and Stem Cells (ISEH) gives this prestigious award to an outstanding early‑career investigator in experimental hematology and stem cell science.
Dr. Mikkola, a member of the UCLA Eli & Edythe Broad Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research, has received two CIRM grants, including a New Faculty award supporting her work on hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). Her research aims to better understand how these blood‑forming cells develop so we can eventually generate them outside the body for leukemia treatments.
She accepted the award at the ISEH annual meeting in Vienna, Austria. In a UCLA news release, she said she felt honored and grateful for the recognition and plans to use it as motivation to continue advancing stem cell science.
Congratulations to Dr. Mikkola and her team on this well‑deserved achievement.
